Lavender Fields Forever
There is a place tucked in the countryside of Ontario that beckons the soul. The beauty and scent of lavender fields makes one feel like they have been transported to a heavenly realm where time stops and the senses begin to dance. That place is Laveanne. The curators of Laveanne had a dream to recreate the lavender fields of the French region of Province without leaving Ontario. With that vision, they spent countless hours of research, planning, and much hard work to make their dream become a reality.
Lavender (Scientific Name: Lavandula) is one of the most fragrant and highly versatile herbs that you can grow. It is actually a part of the mint family. As you may already know, lavender is used in essential oils, perfumes, in aromatherapy, in traditional herbal medicine and in the kitchen as a culinary herb. Lavender’s beauty as well as it’s smell and multiple medicinal uses has made it’s mark down through history. The Romans used lavender to scent everything from bathing water to bedding. Queen Victoria is said to have been a fan of lavender. Queen Marie Antoinette decorated her palace with lavender. It is quite the aristocratic scent.
At Laveanne, not only can you enjoy the 4 acres of lavender fields and gardens in a park like setting, there are many other activities to enjoy. Some of those include guided and unguided tours with interpretive signs, seminars and demonstrations on growing and cultivating your own lavender. Yoga classes are also available, as well as a restaurant, and gift shop.
As you can imagine, the beauty of Laveanne draws many local Ontario Family Photographers, myself included. It is one of my favorite places to photograph families. The lavender is in it’s full glory in the month of July. If you would like a beautiful setting for your family portraits, Laveanne is the place. I have limited sessions available in the Lavender fields but would be honored to reserve one for you and your family.
If you are looking for a fun, educational, family adventure in the Ontario area, Laveanne will not disappoint. It is like transporting your family to the lavender fields of France. The beauty, aroma, and rich history of lavender at Laveanne, will challenge the senses as well as providing a soft landing for the soul. Come taste and see the magic of this special place that is truly a gift to Ontario.
